…and what you can do about it.
Moisture and mold are a growing problem in many buildings. According to Bolius Knowledge Center, the number of mold complaints was 70% higher in winter 2023/2024 compared to 2020/2021. The combination of wet winters and rising energy prices has created ideal conditions for moisture and mold in Danish homes (Source: Bolius).
Have you experienced problems in your properties? Unfortunately, moisture and mold are not only found in older buildings, but also in newer, well-insulated properties – and can lead to major challenges. Read more about the Wise Home indoor climate solution here.
Invisible hazards for both occupants and buildings
A poor indoor climate affects both the health of the occupants and the condition of the building – often without realizing it in time.
Typical symptoms for residents can include fatigue, headaches and rashes, while people with asthma are particularly at risk. Signs of moisture problems in the building can be condensation on windows and bad odors – but some damage is invisible and develops over time.
“Poor indoor air quality is an overlooked danger in many rental properties. It can have major health consequences and inappropriate behavior can make it worse. Most people simply don’t know that their indoor climate is not optimal – or what they can do about it.”
– Lars Gunnarsen, Professor Emeritus of Indoor Climate
Take action before the damage is done
Have you or your residents noticed any of these signs of poor indoor air quality? Wise Home indoor climate sensors help you monitor and improve the indoor climate – and prevent moisture and mold problems in your properties.
“If you don’t know that the indoor climate is bad, you don’t do anything about it until the damage is done – which can be costly. A solution like Wise Homes clarifies important information about the indoor climate condition and creates a great incentive to improve and prevent the problems caused by poor indoor air quality.”
– Lars Gunnarsen
When you become aware of a poor indoor climate, simple actions can make a big difference. Here are three important tips:
- Ventilate 3-4 times a day
Ventilate well, especially in the morning and evening, to remove moisture and harmful substances. Pay special attention to rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms, the kitchen and the bedroom. - Keep the temperature stable
Make sure the temperature in all rooms is always above 19°C to minimize the risk of mold. Use all radiators for efficient heat distribution. For example, it’s not a good idea to turn off the heating in the bedroom to save energy – if you want to sleep cool, it’s better to air out before bedtime. - Avoid drying clothes inside
If necessary, ensure good ventilation and never dry clothes directly on radiators as this increases humidity significantly.
